This Christmas Season, Give (Up) Your Guns, Get a Giftcard

Posted: 10 Dec 2011 12:29 PM PST

From: Infowars.com

This Christmas, give the gift of disarmament!

Programs in communities across the nation are urging people to give up their guns– in exchange for gift cards in time for holiday shopping. While the pittance of $25 or $50 seems unlikely to motivate a trade off for firearms, routinely worth hundreds or more, the message is there– promoted under the mantra "no questions asked"– guns are undesirable, perhaps almost illegal. In many cases, the weapons are traced for DNA and fingerprint evidence that could be connected with a crime, before being destroyed.

In the round-up of stories on these nearly-identical programs, it is a clear trend that a police officer is there, not only to ensure that guns received are safely stored and unloaded before destruction, but perhaps, to give the impression that guns are menace rather than an asset and right guaranteed under the 2nd Amendment of the Bill of Rights in the Constitution. Routinely, the rationale is to stop gun-related crimes– as if the criminals rather than braindead consumers will be lining up to turn in their weapons.

Instead, as has been confirmed in the fallout over Fast & Furious, criminal gangs are facilitated with firearms directly from the federal government… but that's all part of the fun of demonizing the Second Amendment and putting the burden of potential guilt on the public at large.

Residents can exchange real firearms for $25 Kroger gift cards from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday at the Greater Faith Missionary Baptist Church parking lot at 1803 County Hospital Road in Bordeaux.

No questions will be asked to those exchanging the guns. [...] A Metro Police officer from the department's Training Academy will be in the church parking lot to receive the guns, ensure that they are unloaded and do not pose any immediate danger.

Gun lobby rejoices over ruling on FOID privacy

Posted: 10 Dec 2011 12:25 PM PST

By: Pam Adams, pjstar.com

Gun-rights advocates are doubly relieved with Peoria County Circuit Judge Michael Brandt’s ruling that blocks the names of Illinois’ 1.3 million gun-card holders from being released to the public.

Brandt’s decision comes after Illinois legislators passed a law earlier this year barring access to the names of people who hold firearm owner’s identification (FOID) cards from the public.

“We all know legislators are only as good as their word until the next election,” said Richard Pearson, director of the Illinois State Rifle Association. “Now we’ve got a legislative decision and a court decision.”

Pearson said Brandt’s ruling enhanced legal gun owners’ privacy. While the new law exempted FOID cardholders from the state’s Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), Brandt’s order also prevents information on transactions, background checks and purchases from being open to the public.

In requesting the names of gun-card holders, The Associated Press set off the battle between the state’s FOID and FOIA laws that boiled down to a battle between cardholders’ privacy and the public’s right to know.

Though Illinois State Police, which oversees the FOID list, disagreed, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan backed the AP request.

Jay-Z says President Obama can raise taxes as Congress debates over extending payroll-tax cut

Posted: 10 Dec 2011 12:22 PM PST

BY BRIAN BROWDIE, NEW YORK DAILY NEWS

Jay-Z has a message for President Obama: Read my lips– Raise my taxes.

The “Empire State of Mind” rapper says he’s fine with a higher bill, provided the money goes towards a good cause.

“I wouldn’t mind paying more taxes if it went to the things that really mattered,” Jay-Z told CNN. “If it went to education, to people in poverty, if it went to the right things, I wouldn’t mind.”

Jay-Z, who’s real name is Shawn Carter, indicated his support for a tax hike as the President and congressional Republicans duel over competing proposals for extending a payroll-tax cut for working Americans that’s set to expire on Jan. 1.

The Obama administration would pay for the extension with higher taxes on families who make $1 million or more. Republicans support the extension but reject any tax increases to pay for it.

Jay-Z, calling for an “open accounting” of where tax dollars go, said he thinks other wealthy people “with a “conscience, with some integrity and moral fiber” would be fine with paying more taxes if they knew exactly where their money was going.

Average US Family Lost $21K in 6 Months Due To Property Values, Stock Market

Posted: 10 Dec 2011 12:19 PM PST

From: myfoxdc.com

NEW YORK – The average US household lost $21,261 of net worth this summer, the largest decline in family wealth in nearly three years.

The drop in the third quarter, tied to falling home values and a cratering stock market, is the second straight quarter of eroding wealth, according to the Federal Reserve’s quarterly report, released Thursday.

Prior to the back-to-back quarterly declines in household net worth, which wiped out $2.55 trillion from families’ ledgers, Main Street experienced three straight quarters of growth, the report said.

Household net worth is the value of assets like homes, bank accounts and stocks, minus debts like mortgages and credit cards.

Consumers began this year ahead of the game, with overall net worth of $511,224 per household, which dropped to $498,751 as of Sept. 30 — after an average $9,757 per household gain in the first three months of the year and a $912 decline in quarter two.

Napolitano Jokes With CFR Elitists Over Drudge “Big Sis” Moniker

Posted: 10 Dec 2011 12:15 PM PST

By: Paul Joseph Watson, Infowars.com

After being asked if the encroaching eyes of big government were giving the U.S. a bad name during a CFR event earlier today, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano responded by saying she was pleased with being dubbed "Big Sis" by the Drudge Report.

Discussing airport security, moderator Terry Moran stated, "There is this sense of encroaching eyes of government on us at every single stage, you get that all the time, so what do you say as you reach these agreements, push our borders and the United States' way of doing things out into countries which have different traditions and values, perhaps? Is big sister watching?"

"I think 'big sis' is my moniker in the Drudge Report," responded Napolitano.

"I knew I'd actually made it when I had my own name in the Drudge Report. You know, that's the standard," joked the DHS chief, pumping her fist in the air, and receiving a few chuckles in response from the CFR elitists in the audience.

Unfortunately for Napolitano, being named after a fictional dictator of a totalitarian state where the government keeps constant surveillance of its citizens is not something to be proud of.

Napolitano is obviously very pleased with herself for riling the privacy-oriented Matt Drudge and his millions of readers. Back in September, she also referenced the moniker during a Politico breakfast meeting.

No more talking behind the wheel: Scientists develop system that can shut down your cell phone while you’re driving

Posted: 10 Dec 2011 12:10 PM PST

From: Dailymail.co.uk

Researchers have discovered how to stop drivers using their phones when they are behind the wheel without affecting use for passengers.

A team at Stevens Institute of Technology and Rutgers in New Jersey have created a system which shuts down a driver’s phone without affecting other people in the vehicle.

It utilises a phone’s Bluetooth connection and a vehicle’s speakers to detect if the driver is using their mobile phone while driving, reports CNET.

The system measures the acoustic signals emitted from the stereo and the proximity of the phone to the Bluetooth receiver, essentially pinging both systems to determine where the phone is being operated.

By measuring the phone’s distance between the speakers, the phone can estimate its distance from the car’s centre, and determine more than 95 percent of the time if the phone is in the possession of the driver or a passenger.

Once the ownership is determined, the phone can decide if it needs to lock down services, according to CNET.

White House plan to use churches, mosques, synagogues for vaccinations

Posted: 10 Dec 2011 12:07 PM PST

Recently the White House Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, held an invitation-only call.

The call was co-sponsored by the U.S. Health and Human Services, the Office of Minority Health, and CDC.

Conspicuously, the end of the invitation read:

"This call is off the record and is not for press purposes" — but it became public when it showed up on the HHS website.

Fortunately one of our staff was able to get on the call.

The focus of the call was on getting faith-based organizations to sponsor flu clinics with Walgreens.

Basically, they want to move inside your church, mosque or synagogue, and set up shop, with your pastor, priest, imam and rabbi on hand to convince you to get a flu shot.

As an example, they cited a priest who stopped in the middle of mass to roll up his sleeve and get vaccinated, inspiring the rest of his parish to line up behind him.

Glenn Beck: The Tea Party Supporting Gingrich Over Obama ‘Must Be About Race’

Posted: 10 Dec 2011 12:04 PM PST

By Frances Martel, Mediaite.com

Glenn Beck has made no secret of how much he dislikes Newt Gingrich– not even to Newt Gingrich's face. But he has yet to confront his supporters until last night, when he reasoned to Freedom Watch host Judge Andrew Napolitano that there was very little difference between Gingrich and President Barack Obama– so much so that the only possible explanation for Tea Partiers rallying around Gingrich is "Obama's race."

Describing Gingrich as "the only candidate I cannot vote for" and "a progressive, he knows he's a progressive, he doesn't have a problem with being a progressive," Beck issues a "challenge to the Tea Party" when they go to the voting booths and see his name on the ballot:

"If you have a big government progressive, or a big government progressive in Obama… ask yourself this, Tea Party: is it about Obama's race? Because that's what it appears to be to me. If you're against him but you're for this guy, it must be about race. I mean, what else is it? It's the policies that matter."

Judge Napolitano agreed, adding that he believed Gingrich was "so polarizing… the Democrats may succeed in turning the campaign away from the President's miserable three years in Washington." Beck agreed, citing "the establishment in Washington clawing for power" as the reason for his rise, and adding that "he makes Mitt Romney look like a small government guy." Beck did admit that "it would kill me to do it," but he could vote for Romney, which he could not do for Gingrich. The conversation was rounded out with an assessment of Rep. Ron Paul, who he noted was absolutely right in his opinion on the economy, but he "disagreed vehemently" on foreign policy with.
