16 Suspected ‘Anonymous’ Hackers Arrested in Nationwide Sweep Posted: 19 Jul 2011 04:29 PM PDT By Jana Winter, FOXNews.com Sixteen suspected members of “Anonymous” were arrested this morning in states across the country, from California to New York, in a federal raid on the notorious hacking group. The arrests Tuesday, first reported by FoxNews.com, are part of an ongoing investigation into Anonymous, which has claimed responsibility for numerous cyberattacks against a variety of websites, including Visa and Mastercard. The Department of Justice, in announcing the arrests and more than 35 search warrants in the case, said the case stemmed from an alleged cybertattack on the website PayPal over its action against controversial group WikiLeaks, one of the inspirations for the hacker group Anonymous. Fourteen of the arrests were identified in the same indictment out of California, while two separate criminal complaints filed out of courts in Newark, N.J., and Tampa, Fla., name the two other alleged hackers. All are believed to have been involved in carrying out nationwide coordinated distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks on multiple high-profile, billion-dollar companies. “In retribution for PayPal's termination of WikiLeaks' donation account, a group calling itself Anonymous coordinated and executed distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks against PayPal's computer servers using an open source computer program the group makes available for free download on the Internet,” the Justice Department said in a news release. The department identified the suspects in the California indictment as Christopher Wayne Cooper, 23, aka "Anthrophobic;" Joshua John Covelli, 26, aka "Absolem" and "Toxic;" Keith Wilson Downey, 26; Mercedes Renee Haefer, 20, aka "No" and "MMMM;" Donald Husband, 29, aka "Ananon;" Vincent Charles Kershaw, 27, aka "Trivette," "Triv" and "Reaper;" Ethan Miles, 33; James C. Murphy, 36; Drew Alan Phillips, 26, aka "Drew010;" Jeffrey Puglisi, 28, aka "Jeffer," "Jefferp" and "Ji;" Daniel Sullivan, 22; Tracy Ann Valenzuela, 42; and Christopher Quang Vo, 22. One individual's name has been withheld by the court. To read more, visit: http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2011/07/19/exclusive-fbi-search-warrants-nationwide-hunt-anonymous/ |
Relaxation drinks see energetic growth in U.S. Posted: 19 Jul 2011 04:23 PM PDT By Eunju Lie, Reuters.com (Reuters) – People have been guzzling energy drinks for the last 10 years — maybe it’s time to relax. Sales of “relaxation drinks” with names like Vacation in a Bottle, Dream Water and Just Chill, while small, are growing. “There is clear potential for further growth in the coming years,” said Cecilia Martinez, market analyst at UK-based beverage research group Zenith International. Relaxation drinks help the body chill out by relieving muscle tension and reducing levels of cortisone, the main stress hormone, according to a report that Martinez wrote about the drinks earlier this year. The drinks, which evolved in Japan as far back as 2005, contain no alcohol but some have melatonin, a hormone that can cause drowsiness. The biggest relaxation brands include Innovative Beverage Group’s Drank, Purple Stuff and Jones GABA. Another called Slow Cow is up and coming. Their names provide a marked contrast to engine-revving energy drinks such as Red Bull, Hansen Natural’s Monster and Dr Pepper Snapple Group’s Venom Energy. Ron Paul: “We Will Default Because The Debt Is Unsustainable” Posted: 19 Jul 2011 04:20 PM PDT From: Realclearpolitics.com “When a country is indebted to the degree that we're indebted, the country always defaults. We will default because the debt is unsustainable,” Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX) said on the House floor today. “If we don't understand this, this default will not be because we don’t send out the checks. We will send out the checks. It will be defaulted on because people will get their money back, or they will get their Social Security checks and it won’t buy anything.” To read more, visit: http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2011/07/19/ron_paul_we_will_default_because_the_debt_is_unsustainable.html |
Stress-related condition ‘incapacitates’ Bachmann; heavy pill use alleged Posted: 19 Jul 2011 04:16 PM PDT By Jonathan Strong, DailyCaller.com In late July 2010, Rep. Michele Bachmann's then-communications director, Dave Dziok, told his boss that he planned to take a new job with the public relations firm Edelman. Dziok had worked for Bachmann for two and a half years, a relatively long period by the standards of her office, and was leaving on good terms. Staff turnover can frustrate any employer, but Bachmann responded more dramatically. Dziok's departure triggered a debilitating medical episode that landed the congresswoman in urgent care. "Within 24 hours she was in the hospital," a former aide says. Bachmann was admitted to a Washington, D.C. hospital on Friday, July 30, and released that same day. She flew home to Minnesota to recuperate, missing a scheduled campaign event with Sen. Roy Blunt. It's "nothing folks should worry about going forward," Dziok told reporters at the time, refusing to specify why Bachmann had been hospitalized. Man sues Nevada DMV for trying to ban personalised ‘GOPALIN’ licence plates Posted: 19 Jul 2011 04:12 PM PDT From: Dailymail.co.uk A Nevada man has filed suit against the state’s Department of Motor Vehicles after multiple requests for personalised licence plates supporting Republican Sarah Palin were rejected. James Linlor, of Douglas County, claims his rights were violated when the state refused to issue a series of license plates supporting the former Alaska governor, branding them ‘inappropriate’ in nature. According to the claim, ‘GOPALIN’ was among several requests rejected, while the agency approved others including ‘GO OBAMA’ and ‘DMOCRAT’. According to court documents filed on Friday in U.S. District Court, Mr Linlor filed for the personalised licence plate ‘GOPALIN’ in 2009 and 2010. Both, he says, were rejected, reports the Las Vegas Sun. In June, 2010, his requests for ‘PALIN,’ ‘PALIN12′ and ‘PALIN16′ were denied. The DMV's Special Plates Committee, which reviews applications, stated the applications were ‘vulgar or obscene or expressing superiority of political affiliation.’ To read more, visit: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2016309/Man-sues-Nevada-DMV-trying-ban-personalised-GOPALIN-licence-plates.html |
