Sarah Palin’s website sparks White House buzz Posted: 20 Apr 2011 05:13 AM PDT Politico by Andy Barr 4/18/11 Sarah Palin rolled out a new website for her PAC on Monday with significantly more content and features, along with a vehicle for Palin to start gathering email addresses and information from her supporters. The new site, sarahpac.com, is a necessary step if Palin intends to run for president and for the first time gives her organization the ability to interact with her supporters by providing a centralized location to collect data and solicit donations. Though Palin maintains a staff of several seasoned political hands, she had yet to build out some of the basic needs of a political organization — including an email list. SarahPAC Treasurer Tim Crawford told POLITICO that the new site has been in the work for some time and was designed to engage more directly with Palin supporters. "We needed a new website, one that was more interactive," Crawford said. "We're certainly engaging with Sarah's supporters." |
No wiffle ball? New York nanny state draws up list of risky children’s games to regulate day camps Posted: 20 Apr 2011 05:07 AM PDT NEW CITY, N.Y. CBS New York Red rover, red rover, don't even think about coming over. That was the message delivered by some New York state bureaucrats after a Health Department list of summer camp restrictions was released Tuesday morning before they eventually backed off. Childrens' games, such as Wiffle Ball, kickball, dodgeball, freeze tag and even some arts and crafts were said to pose a "significant risk of injury." Twelve-year-old Glen talked to CBS 2′s Cindy Hsu and took issue with Wiffle Ball and arts and crafts being on the list. He said "it's not more than likely that you would get hurt" from those activities. |
Brewer Signs Bill Giving Tea Party-Backed Flag Same Status as U.S. Flag Posted: 20 Apr 2011 04:59 AM PDT Published April 19, 2011 FoxNews.com Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signed into law this week a bill that prevents homeowners associations from banning the black-on-yellow Gadsden flags — the Tea Party-favored banners displaying the coiled rattlesnake and “Don't Tread on Me” message. Under the new law, the flag has the same protected status as the American flag, the flags of any military branch, the state flag, the POW-MIA flag and the flag of any Arizona Indian nation. But homeowners associations can still prohibit residents from flying more than two flags at once and restrict a flag pole to the height of the resident’s roof. The flag is named after American statesman Christopher Gadsden who designed it in 1775. |
Posted: 19 Apr 2011 07:15 AM PDT By Robin Harding and James Politi in Washington and Michael Mackenzie in New York Published: April 18 2011 15:19 Standard & Poor's issued a stark warning to Washington on Monday, cutting its outlook on US sovereign debt for the first time and throwing more fuel on the raging debate over America's swollen deficits. The agency kept America's credit rating at triple A but for the first time since it started rating US debt 70 years ago, cut its outlook from "stable" to "negative". A negative outlook means there is a one-third chance of a downgrade in the next two years. Doubts about US creditworthiness could threaten the dollar's use as a global reserve currency amid the rise of rivals such as China that have better growth prospects and fewer fiscal challenges. "This, at its core, is questioning what was an unquestionable tenet of the financial markets," said Guy LeBas, chief fixed-income strategist at New York broker-dealer Janney Montgomery Scott. He said the chance of a downgrade represents "a higher risk level for the Treasury market than at any point in the memorable past" |
