Buffett Tax on Wealthy Backed by Millionaires If They’re Exempt Posted: 17 Jan 2012 01:37 PM PST By: Elizabeth Ody,, SFGate.com Millionaires said they support Warren Buffett’s view that the wealthiest should pay more in taxes, as long as it’s other rich Americans, according to a survey released today. About 71 percent of millionaires surveyed said they agree with Buffett, chairman and chief executive officer of Omaha, Nebraska-based Berkshire Hathaway Inc. that the very wealthy ought to pay more in taxes and give more to charity. That included 49 percent who said that they’re “not in the same league” as Buffett and that higher taxes on the wealthiest shouldn’t apply to them personally, according to the survey released today by PNC Wealth Management, a unit of Pittsburgh- based PNC Financial Services Group Inc., the sixth-largest U.S. bank by deposits. “When we compare ourselves to somebody else, we always think that they should do more,” said R. Bruce Bickel, senior vice president of PNC Wealth Management. The 555 survey respondents, who each had household investable assets of $1 million or more excluding real estate, may be saying, “‘well I don’t consider myself the ultra-wealthy, when I compare myself to a Buffett,’” he said. Buffett, 81, the world’s third-richest person according to Forbes magazine, in August urged Congress to raise taxes on households earning more than $1 million, in an opinion article published in the New York Times. About 236,883 households earned $1 million or more in 2009, according to the U.S. Internal Revenue Service. Income-tax rates for top earners will rise to 39.6 percent from 35 percent in 2013 and rates on capital gains and dividends also may rise, unless Congress acts. The survey didn’t ask respondents for the level of income or assets that should trigger higher taxes, according to Alan Aldinger, a PNC spokesman. Are The Middle East Wars Really About Forcing the World Into Dollars and Private Central Banking? Posted: 17 Jan 2012 01:34 PM PST By: Zero Hedge, InfoWars.com The Middle Eastern and North African wars – planned 20 years ago – don't necessarily have much to do with fighting terrorism. See this, this and this. They are, in reality, about oil. And protecting Israel (and read the section entitled "Securing the Realm" here). But as AFP reports today, there is another major motivation for the expanding wars: The latest round of American sanctions are aimed at shutting down Iran's central bank, a senior US official said Thursday, spelling out that intention directly for the first time. "We do need to close down the Central Bank of Iran (CBI)," the official told reporters on condition of anonymity, while adding that the United States is moving quickly to implement the sanctions, signed into law last month. Foreign central banks that deal with the Iranian central bank on oil transactions could also face similar restrictions under the new law, which has sparked fears of damage to US ties with nations like Russia and China. "If a correspondent bank of a US bank wants to do business with us and they're doing business with CBI or other designated Iranian banks… then they're going to get in trouble with us," the US official said. Posted: 17 Jan 2012 01:31 PM PST By: Kurt Nimmo, Infowars.com During the latest "debate" in South Carolina, Mitt Romney said that if he were president he would sign the the National Defense Authorization Act. Prior to his recent assertion that it is perfectly normal to dispense with the Fourth Amendment and suspend habeas corpus, Romney said he wasn't up to speed on the law and promised to post an analysis on his website, which he never did. Romney said you don't have the "right to join a group that has challenged America" and then mentioned al-Qaeda, the terror group that the FBI admits poses little threat to the nation. The NDAA, however, is not about indefinitely detaining Muslim cave dwellers. It's about disappearing American citizens who oppose the bankster cartel now in control of the government. The law is a "violent and sudden usurpation" of the Constitution of the sort James Madison warned about. The founders considered habeas corpus the most fundamental of rights because it insured that the executive branch could not hold people without cause. It was so important the founders included it in Article 1, Section 9, Clause 2 of the Constitution. Truman tried to veto the Internal Security Act of 1950 that codified indefinite detention without trial but he was overturned by Congress.Truman said it was "the greatest danger to freedom of speech, press, and assembly" since the Alien and Sedition Laws of 1798 and represented a "mockery of the Bill of Rights" and was a "long step toward totalitarianism." Facebook Gives Politico Deep Access to Users’ Political Sentiments Posted: 17 Jan 2012 01:27 PM PST By: Liz Gannes, AllThingsD.com Counting Twitter mentions would have you believe that Ron Paul is the most popular Republican candidate in the ongoing U.S. primaries. Umm, right. But some social media analysis of politics is going beyond that. A partnership between Facebook and Politico announced today is one of the more far-reaching efforts. It will consist of sentiment analysis reports and voting-age user surveys, accompanied by stories by Politico reporters. Most notably, the Facebook-Politico data set will include Facebook users' private status messages and comments. While that may alarm some people, Facebook and Politico say the entire process is automated and no Facebook employees read the posts. Rather, every post and comment — both public and private — by a U.S. user that mentions a presidential candidate's name will be fed through a sentiment analysis tool that spits out anonymized measures of the general U.S. Facebook population. This is similar to the way Google offers reports on search trends based on its users' aggregate search activities. Radiation poisoning? Homeopathic and other natural remedies provide protection and treatment Posted: 17 Jan 2012 01:24 PM PST By: JB Bardot, NaturalNews.com Radioactive waste from Fukushima is approaching the west coast of North America at a frightening rate. Hundreds of seals off the coast of Alaska are dead and dying from symptoms that look ominously like radiation disease; and most people wonder what and who is next. Alternative medicine offers a wide variety of treatments to protect and treat radiation sickness. Certain homeopathic medicines and other natural substances may provide relief from radiation disease symptoms or boost the body’s natural vital force to protect itself from the severity of radiation exposure. Symptoms of Radiation Sickness Early signs of radiation illness include headache, nausea, vomiting and fever. Additional symptoms may appear later, including weakness, dizziness, mental confusion, hair loss, skin lesions, bloody vomit and stools, low blood pressure, wounds that are slow to heal, bone marrow deterioration, gastrointestinal and cardiovascular shut down, and cancerous tumors. Many of these symptoms also appear in animals, as evidenced by the seals in Alaska. Protection Homeopathic Fucus vesiculosus is a tincture made from a form of sea kelp that can be used to protect the thyroid from radioactive contamination. Like potassium iodide, it acts to block the thyroid receptors, preventing absorption of radiation; however, the dose is easier to control. It is milder and better tolerated by people with thyroid disease and other sensitivities. Topical Treatments Raw, organic honey possesses antibacterial properties and can reduce the severity of skin burns and lesions as well as lesson inflammation and ulcerations of the mucous membranes of the digestive tract. Calendula extract is a healing, soothing liquid that can be mixed with water and applied to relieve burns, sores, itching, peeling and other skin ailments resulting from exposure to radiation. Echinacea extract is rich in anti-inflammatory agents and acts as an antibiotic when applied to infected areas of the skin. It can be used in any skin ailment, especially those that become infected and septic. To read more, visit: http://www.naturalnews.com/034668_radiation_poisoning_homeopathic_remedies.html |
Obama tied with Romney & Paul in November showdowns Posted: 17 Jan 2012 01:20 PM PST From: CNN Politics Washington (CNN) – Mitt Romney is all tied up with President Barack Obama in a likely general election matchup, with the president showing signs of weakness on the economy and Romney seen as out of touch with ordinary Americans, according to a new national survey. And a CNN/ORC International Poll released Monday also indicates that Rep. Ron Paul of Texas is also even with Obama in another possible showdown this November. The survey also suggests the Republican advantage on voter enthusiasm is eroding, which could be crucial in a close contest. According to the survey, if the November election were held today and Romney were the Republican presidential nominee, 48% say they’d vote for the former Massachusetts governor, with 47% supporting the president. Romney’s one point margin is well within the poll’s sampling error. The poll also indicates Paul statistically tied with Obama, with the president at 48% and the longtime congressman at 46%. But according to the poll, the president is doing better against two other Republican presidential candidates. If Rick Santorum were the GOP nominee, Obama would hold a 51%-45% advantage over the former senator from Pennsylvania. And if Newt Gingrich faced off against the president, Obama would lead the former House speaker 52%-43%. Enthusiasm in voting in the presidential election this November now stands at 54% among registered Republicans, down ten points from last October. Meanwhile, enthusiasm among registered Democrats has risen six points, and now stands at 49%. “In a race that tight, turnout is likely to determine the outcome, and the Democrats have begun to close the ‘enthusiasm gap’ that damaged their prospects so badly in the 2010 midterms,” says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. Tea Party “kingmaker” DeMint focuses on Senate races Posted: 17 Jan 2012 01:18 PM PST By Nick Carey, Reuters.com Everybody was waiting for Jim DeMint. Mitt Romney had reason to hope the South Carolina senator would repeat his 2008 endorsement of his presidential bid. DeMint is the hero of conservatives in South Carolina, so his backing might well have clinched the crucial state for Romney. Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum and Ron Paul had just as much reason to hope DeMint might support them, and put him in the role of kingmaker in the Republican race for the White House. At a convention of the conservative Tea Party movement in Myrtle Beach on Sunday, DeMint made clear, however, they could all stop holding their collective breath. The Republican lawmaker, who had refused to endorse anyone, said he was definitely staying on the sidelines. “We’ve got a presidential race coming up and we’ve got a lot of good candidates,” he said. “I know that probably folks in this room feel strongly about them in a lot of different ways, and that’s why I’m not getting involved,” he added to laughter from the audience.
