Debbie’s Philosophy on Taxes…In a Nutshell

Posted: 11 Jan 2012 08:07 AM PST

From: FOXNation

“There is nothing wrong with doing well. It’s a goal we all aspire to. And we want everybody in America to do well. But we shouldn’t have our tax policy exclusively focused on helping people already doing well do better. In America we should target our tax policy towards people who want to be lifted up.”

Right wing rips Gingrich, Perry for attacks on Romney, capitalism

Posted: 11 Jan 2012 08:07 AM PST

By Justin Sink, The Hill.com

Conservatives are savaging Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry for their attacks on Mitt Romney's years at the private-equity firm Bain Capital.

The attacks from Gingrich and Perry, whose presidential campaigns are on life support, are meant to resonate in South Carolina, the next state on the GOP calendar and a place hit hard by the economic downturn.

Yet in slamming Romney as a corporate raider, the two candidates fighting for their party's right-wing might have done what Romney never seemed capable of: rallying conservatives around the former Massachusetts governor's campaign.

The influential Wall Street Journal editorial page denounced the criticism as "crude and damaging caricatures of modern business and capitalism" on Tuesday, saying that "desperate" GOP candidates "sound like Michael Moore," the left-wing filmmaker and provocateur.
Other prominent conservatives similarly bemoaned what they viewed as liberal attack tactics that will be copied by President Obama's campaign in November.

Conservative talk radio stalwart Rush Limbaugh said Monday of Gingrich's criticism that "you could have read this in an Occupy Wall Street flier."

TSA officers jailed for stealing $40,000 in cash from a passenger’s bag

Posted: 11 Jan 2012 07:59 AM PST

By DAILY MAIL REPORTER

Two former Transportation Security Administration officers based at John F. Kennedy Airport are going to jail after admitting to stealing $40,000 in cash from a checked bag.

The Queens District Attorney’s Office says 44-year-old Coumar Persad, of Queens, and 31-year-old Davon Webb, of the Bronx, were sentenced on Tuesday to six months jail and five years’ probation.

Both had pleaded guilty to grand larceny, obstructing governmental administration and official misconduct, the Associated Press reports.

The money was all reportedly stolen from one passenger’s baggage.

Prosecutors said Persad X-rayed a piece of baggage on January 30 last year and noticed money inside. He then phoned Webb, who was in a baggage belt area, to tell him about the discovery.

uthorities said Webb showed up and marked the bag with tape. Persad then intercepted it in another handling area, and removed cash from the bag.

The pair later met in the bathroom to divide the money and hide it in their clothing.

Police say $39,980 was recovered from the suspects’ homes in connection with the investigation.

Persad’s attorney has said his client understands he made a mistake and wishes to move on with his life.

Leaked documents reveal US diplomats actually work for Monsanto

Posted: 11 Jan 2012 07:55 AM PST

By: Anthony Gucciardi, NaturalNews.com

Biotech giant Monsanto has been genetically modifying the world’s food supply and subsequently breeding environmental devastation for years, but leaked documents now reveal that Monsanto has also deeply infiltrated the United States government. With leaked reports revealing how U.S. diplomats are actually working for Monsanto to push their agenda along with other key government officials, Monsanto’s grasp on international politics has never been clearer.

Amazingly, the information reveals that the massive corporation is also intensely involved in the passing and regulations concerning the very GM ingredients they are responsible for. In fact, the information released by WikiLeaks reveals just how much power Monsanto has thanks to key positions within the United States government and elsewhere. Not only was it exposed that the U.S. is threatening nations who oppose Monsanto with military-style trade wars, but that many U.S. diplomats actually work directly for Monsanto.

What the leaked documents reveal — Military style trade wars, government corruption

In 2007 it was requested that specific nations inside the European Union be punished for not supporting the expansion of Monsanto’s GMO crops. The request for such measures to be taken was made by Craig Stapleton, the United States ambassador to France and partner to George W. Bush. Despite mounting evidence linking Monsanto’s GM corn to organ damage and environmental devastation, the ambassador plainly calls for ‘target retaliation’ against those not supporting the GM crop. In the leaked documents, Stapleton states:

“Country team Paris recommends that we calibrate a target retaliation list that causes some pain across the EU since this is a collective responsibility, but that also focuses in part on the worst culprits. The list should be measured rather than vicious and must be sustainable over the long term, since we should not expect an early victory. Moving to retaliation will make clear that the current path has real costs to EU interests and could help strengthen European pro-biotech voices.”

The undying support of key players within the U.S. towards Monsanto is undeniably made clear not only in this release, but in the legislative decisions taken by organizations such as the FDA and USDA. Legislative decisions such as allowing Monsanto’s synthetic hormone Posilac (rBGH) to be injected into U.S. cows despite being banned in 27 countries. How did Monsanto pull this off?

The biotech juggernaut managed to infiltrate the FDA positions responsible for the approval of rBGH, going as far as instating the company’s own Margaret Miller as Deputy Director of Human Safety and Consultative Services. After assuming this position, Miller reviewed her own report on the safety and effectiveness of rBGH.

Their counterparts on the Tea Party side are a 36-year-old college secretary from Indiana, a retired airline captain from Missouri and a 74-year-old Tea Party organizer from Michigan.

The debate isn't limited to just these six people. Anyone can weigh in or ask a question via Facebook, Twitter, Google+ or directly on NBCpolitics.com.

Ron Paul in South Carolina: He brings anti-war, anti-Fed message

Posted: 11 Jan 2012 04:37 AM PST

By JAMES HOHMANN | Politico.com

COLUMBIA, S.C. — Ron Paul sought Wednesday to seize on momentum from his strong second-place finish in New Hampshire.

"We sent a pretty positive message out of Iowa. We sent out a pretty positive message last night in New Hampshire. And South Carolina is next on the list," the Texas congressman told more than 200 enthusiastic supporters crowded into an airport hangar on a rainy afternoon.

Though Paul joined the other GOP candidates in rushing to South Carolina following the New Hampshire primary, his stop was essentially a layover on the way to Texas, where he is taking a respite until Sunday. Once he returns, he plans to stay through the primary on Jan. 21.

Unlike its operations in Iowa and New Hampshire, the Paul campaign does not have a deep organization here. But Paul said after his speech Wednesday that he will finish "in the top tier." He's currently fourth in the most recent polling, trailing Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum.

"The numbers grew exponentially in New Hampshire, and the numbers are going to grow continuously here in South Carolina," Paul said during his speech.

DNC chair blames Tea Party for Tucson shooting

Posted: 11 Jan 2012 04:37 AM PST

By Joel Gehrke, Washington Examiner

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., speaking in New Hampshire, reminded her audience of the tragic Tucson shooting last year — and also insinuated that the Tea Party, which she said regards political opponents as “the enemy,” has enhanced divisiveness in Congress and had something to do with the shooting, at least indirectly.

“We need to make sure that we tone things down, particularly in light of the Tucson tragedy from a year ago, where my very good friend, Gabby Giffords — who is doing really well, by the way, — [was shot],” Wasserman Schultz, the Democratic National Committee chair said during a “Politics and Eggs” forum this morning. “The discourse in America, the discourse in Congress in particular . . . has really changed, I’ll tell you. I hesitate to place blame, but I have noticed it take a very precipitous turn towards edginess and lack of civility with the growth of the Tea Party movement.”

Having brought up the Giffords attack as a political cudgel, Wasserman Schultz doubled down on that attack. “You had town hall meetings that [the Tea Party] tried to take over, and you saw some their conduct at those town hall meetings,” Wasserman Schultz said today. “When they come and disagree with you, you’re not just wrong, you’re the enemy.”
