Colin Powell urges Republican Party to move to the center Posted: 06 May 2009 07:02 AM PDT Former George W. Bush Secretary of State, Colin Powell, says that the Republican Party is in deep trouble and should become more centrist if it wants to survive. He added that the country has changed and “Americans do want to pay taxes for services…Americans are looking for more government in their lives, not less.” Do you agree with his assessment? Posted: 05 May 2009 10:48 AM PDT Representative John Shadegg has re-introduced the Enumerated Powers Act. This would force Congress to cite chapter and verse in the Constitution before passing any law. It is consistent with the 9th & 10th amendments and is vital to limiting the power of the Federal Government. To learn more, check out Downsize DC.
Posted: 05 May 2009 09:57 AM PDT Lately, the talk around the politicosphere regarding the next election centers on the Tea Party movement and the Republican's ability or inability to use us as their grassroots support. Talking heads on the left balk of the "Republican's" silly attempt to pretend they stand for something. Prompt readers on the right taunt the left with our passion and assumed loyalty. And somewhere in the mix, on both the left and the right, some more independent messengers understand the general dissatisfaction that we have with everyone in Washington DC. Free minds don't take marching orders from those that demand allegiance. A free person is a person that acts on their own volition. When defenders of freedom spot dishonesty, they mistrust it. When they find a reason to trust, they embrace it. A few days ago, Jeb Bush, John McCain, Bobby Jindel, Mitt Romney and some other Republican strategists met on how to re-unite the Republican Party. Jeb had this to say:
What Jeb doesn't understand is that the "cause" is freedom and the "good old days" are the days of serious debate, like during the founding of this country. And the Republican attempt to draw people to a cause of re-uniting a power seeking party will not draw free minds. While the Republican Party players decide how they are going to make us fear the so-called socialist leftists that what to kill your babies and promote gaydom, and thus turn to the Republican Party to save us, those on the left will try to marginalize us so-called racist bigots on the right by calling us uneducated, selfish, and crazy. In 1777, Thomas Paine wrote:
Paine, with an inarguable free mind, like him or dislike him, understood that leaders cannot demand allegiance from those that are defending a faith in reason. Reason tells us that the Republican Party does not stand for freedom. Reason tells us that the Republican Party has been largely responsible for the incredible expansion of government. It tells us that their former President kicked the bailout snowball down the mountain and their Presidential nominee broke from his campaign to make sure no one stopped it at the top. Reason tells us that the Republican Party does not stand for the limited scope of government they claim to support. It tells us that free minds will not support leaders that are dishonest about what they stand for. Reason tells us that the Democratic Party does not stand for freedom. It tells us that the Democratic Party has been largely responsible for the intrusion of government into our personal lives. Reason tells us that their solutions require government control. It tells us that government control requires limiting freedom of choice. Reason tells us that the Democratic Party is not the protector of civil liberties it claims to be. It tells us that free minds will not support leaders that are disloyal to their word. So, when the power players on the left decide how they are going to make us fear the so-called greedy right that want to kill your soldiers and enslave the masses, and thus turn to the Democratic Party to save us, those on the right will try to coddle us naïve patriots on the fringe by parroting our talking points, speaking on our behalf, and pretending they aren't part of the problem. But, somewhere in the mix, at the center of the movement, some truly independent minds will make the connection: the cause of freedom will not be cajoled into anyone's swine pen. At no point in this movement, can a political party or chatty Kathy expect their rhetoric to be embraced. At some point in time, independent leaders with independent minds will draw people, not by force, but by the trust of a free and independent mind.
Bailout nation comes to the States Posted: 05 May 2009 09:38 AM PDT Move over sales, income, and property taxes. You don’t provide the bulk of state revenue anymore. Federal aid and “stimulus” money now represent the biggest money makers for the States. Federal distributions to the States increased by 15% over the first quarter, and the Federal Government is now paying for 23% of State and local government expenses. This is unprecedented. Simply put, it means a massive increase in Federal power, and a massive decrease in State power. This is contrary to the Constitution. Sad thing is, most of these States have willingly submitted. Where does your State stand? Read the article here.
